The best AI SEO tools for small businesses do three jobs: show whether ChatGPT and other AIs recommend you, get you found on Google, and help you write pages that answer buyers. Slibur covers the first from $59 a month. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools cover the second for free.
You give up: A free trial. AI prompt checks stop at 150.
Spend nothing first. Search Console, Business Profile and Bing Webmaster Tools are free and cover most of what a small site needs from Google and Bing. Set up all three before you pay for anything.
Then pay for what you cannot see. None of the free tools tells you what ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Grok say when a customer asks for a recommendation. That is the gap Slibur fills, and the five AIs disagreed about this very question.
The best AI SEO tools for small businesses, one by one

Tracks what AI tells your customers
SliburOur product
$59/ month
Or $602 for a full year, about $50.17 a month. Growth costs $129 for 75 prompts; Scale, $299 for 250.
Best for: A business that wants to know what ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Grok tell a customer who asks for a recommendation, and which rivals they name instead.
Weak point: It does not track Google rankings, research keywords or check backlinks, and it has no SEO content score, WordPress connection or API. Claude, Perplexity and Grok are read once a week, through their APIs.
Job
Counts how often AI answers name or cite you, where you sit in each one, which rivals appear beside you and which pages the AI leaned on.
Includes
20 prompts (your customers’ questions), about 1,440 AI answers a month, up to 25 rivals, 5 drafts a month, 3 improvement tasks a week, 2 team members.
AI answers
All five. ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews are read each day*; Claude, Perplexity and Grok each week.
Trial
A 7-day trial without a card: 10 prompts and 1 draft, and no charge afterwards.
Best for: Every business with a website. It is where Google itself shows which searches bring up your site, how often people click and which pages it cannot index.
Weak point: It reports on your site only, never on rivals. Traffic from AI Overviews and AI Mode is counted inside the Web search type, with no report of its own.
Job
Search traffic, indexing and alerts, straight from Google
Includes
Queries, clicks, impressions, re-indexing requests, links to your site, alerts for indexing and spam issues
Best for: Shops, clinics, restaurants and trades that serve an area. Hours, phone, photos and reviews show on Maps and Search, and Google’s page on AI features tells owners to keep this profile current.
Weak point: Businesses that never meet customers in person are not eligible. It tracks no rankings and no reviews on other sites.
Job
Your listing on Google Maps and Search
Includes
Hours, phone, website, address or service area, photos, videos, posts and replies to reviews
Best for: Seeing AI citations before you pay for anything. Since February 10, 2026 its AI Performance report counts how often Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries cite your pages, which pages, and the phrases the AI searched with.
Weak point: It covers Microsoft’s AI only, and it counts citations of your pages, not mentions of your name. ChatGPT, Google, Claude, Perplexity and Grok are outside it.
Job
Bing indexing, plus citations in Microsoft’s AI answers
Includes
Total citations, cited pages, grounding queries and trends; Bing Places keeps local details current

Microsoft Copilot, Bing’s AI summaries and some partners
Core. €87.20 billed yearly. Its page showed us euros only.
Best for: One paid tool for Google rank tracking, research and audits, with some AI tracking on top. Four of the five AIs we asked named it, and two named it first.
Weak point: Prices in euros for us, so we cannot give you the dollar figure. Core tracks 25 AI prompts a day on 5 engines, and the plan table does not say which five.

The SEO plan. €112.52 billed yearly. Its page showed us euros only.
Best for: Keyword research, rank tracking and site audits for up to 5 websites. Semrush aims its SEO plan at freelancers and small businesses.
Weak point: The SEO plan marks AI search tracking as not included. It starts on Starter at €190 a month, for 50 prompts. That is a lot of tool for a ten-page site.

Discovery. $49 billed yearly. Its page showed us these figures in euros; its help center gives them in dollars.
Best for: Owners who write their own pages and want guidance on terms, headings and length while they type.
Weak point: Discovery tracks no AI answers. Tracking starts on Standard, $99 a month billed yearly, and there it covers ChatGPT only. The trial asks for payment details first.
Job

Trial
Pro for 7 days, but it takes your payment details on day one
Best for: The lowest entry price on this page for tracking AI answers, on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot.
Weak point: Lite tracks 15 prompts. Adding Claude costs another $29 a month, and Gemini or AI Mode $9 each. Grok is not available, and neither is a writer.

Starter, with 200 credits a month. Lite, the plan Ahrefs pitches at small businesses, is $129. Yearly billing saves up to 17%.
Best for: Owners who want to see what people search and which pages rank for their rivals. Starter opens Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit and Rank Tracker.
Weak point: No free trial, and its pricing page says it never runs discounts. Starter is meant for light use, with no extra users or credits. Tracked AI prompts begin on Lite.
Job

Bronze. $230 a year if you pay yearly, about $19.17 a month.
Best for: The cheapest editor here, for owners who write a few pages a month and want term suggestions from the pages that already rank.
Weak point: Bronze gives 2 projects, 25 documents and 5 AI-monitored questions. Its AI monitoring leaves out Claude and Grok.

BrightLocal
$41/ month
Track, for one location. $369 billed yearly ($31 a month).
Best for: Service businesses that live on local search: rankings on a map grid, citation checks and an audit of your Business Profile against rivals.
Weak point: Track watches 100 keywords and 4 competitors. Listing sync starts on Manage ($54) and review tools on Grow ($65). No writing help.

Named by one AI: Visby (Grok), Rankscale (Grok), ChatSEO (Grok), Paige by Merchynt (Claude), NeuronWriter (ChatGPT), Mangools (Claude), Perplexity (Google), Rank Math (ChatGPT), BrightLocal (ChatGPT), Google Business Profile (Perplexity), Clearscope (Claude), Google Analytics (ChatGPT), Google Keyword Planner (ChatGPT), Screaming Frog (ChatGPT).
The AIs do not agree. 25 tools came up across five answers. Grok put three AI trackers ahead of any SEO suite, Perplexity was the one to bring up Google Business Profile, and only Claude mentioned a tool built for Business Profiles alone. Ask a different AI and you get a different shortlist.
They lean on sellers’ pages. At least 21 of the 35 sites they cited sell a tool of this kind, and ChatGPT linked the homepages of the tools it listed for 8 of its 12 sources. Google’s AI Overview cited the page that ranks first on Google for this search.
Read it as one day. Each AI answered once, in English, as asked from the United States. Answers shift between runs, which is why Slibur asks every day or every week and reports the trend with its margin of error.
Why a plumber should care. If five AIs disagree about software, they disagree about plumbers, dentists and bakeries too. The only way to know what your customers hear is to ask their questions on a schedule.
In bold, sites cited by more than one AI for that question.
How each AI was asked
ChatGPT: read on chatgpt.com, logged out, with web search on, with gpt-6.
Google AI Overviews: the AI Overview Google shows above its results.
Claude: asked through its API with live web search, with claude-haiku-5-5.
Perplexity: asked through its API, which always searches, with sonar.
Grok: asked through its API with live web search, with grok-4.3.
We pasted the question as written, without a brand name or any instruction. Slibur’s extraction step listed every brand in each answer, and each list was then checked against the answer itself: one name per product, in the order it is recommended, dropping names that only appear in passing. Google’s answer also linked through Google redirects that do not show the site, and those are left out of the counts. Sites are shown by name, not address.
Prices the AIs quoted, checked against each maker
Four of the five AI answers above gave prices. We checked every figure against the maker’s page the same day: 6 matched, 3 did not and 4 could not be checked, because those pages showed us euros.

The lesson is short. AI answers are a fine way to build a shortlist and a poor way to budget. The ranking pages they read slip the same way, as the list of what to skip shows. Read the maker’s page, then decide.
How to judge an AI SEO tool when you run a small business
Six questions to put to any tool before you pay. Each one is answered here for the tools above, with the plans read on the same day.
Does it read AI answers, or only Google?
Most paid tools here began as Google tools. Slibur and Otterly.AI are built around AI answers; SE Ranking, Frase, NeuronWriter, BrightLocal and Ahrefs Lite add a smaller AI allowance to a Google product.
Which AIs, and how often?
ChatGPT is covered nearly everywhere. Claude and Grok are the usual gaps: Slibur reads both on Starter, Frase adds Claude only on Scale, Otterly.AI sells Claude for $29 more and has no Grok, and SE Ranking’s plan table does not name its five engines.
What does the plan you need cost?
Price the cheapest plan that does your job, not the cheapest plan on the page. Ahrefs opens at $29, yet tracked AI prompts begin on Lite at $129. Semrush puts AI tracking on Starter, not on its SEO plan.
Does it fit how your site is built?
Rank Math works inside WordPress only. Frase publishes to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity or Wix. Slibur needs nothing installed on your site, and Search Console and Bing ask you to verify it once.
Will its writing hold up?
A page with a wrong price or an invented customer does more harm than no page. Google wants a person to review (opens in a new tab) AI drafts. Slibur’s Writer leaves a marked gap where only you know the fact; Surfer and NeuronWriter grade your text against the pages that rank.
Is it priced for one site or for many?
Entry plans assume one business. Frase Starter covers one site, BrightLocal prices each location, Semrush’s SEO plan monitors 5 websites and a Slibur workspace measures one country and one language.

See what AI can read on your website
We run 18 checks on what helps AI assistants find, read and cite your site, and tell you what to fix first.
Ready as soon as you sign up, included in the free trial.
Slibur asks the AIs your customers’ questions on a schedule and counts how often your business comes up, who comes up instead and which pages the answers lean on.
Where you are missing
Every question, next to every AI
Each question you track sits next to each AI, and the ones where no answer names or cites you come first. Red means none, orange under half, green half or more.
On this page’s question the row is red for us on all five, and SE Ranking, Semrush and Surfer show up instead. That is the screen a dentist or a bakery sees for its own questions, with its own rivals in that last line.

Real data: this view for Slibur on this page’s own question, one reading per AI, November 7, 2026.
Improvements
3 tasks a week on Starter. Code, not a model, chooses each one from a fixed menu of 17 actions, and it shows the pages that settle the question and how strong the evidence is.
Writer
5 drafts a month on Starter. Each starts from the answers and the pages the AIs cited for that question, and leaves a marked gap wherever only you know the fact. No made-up figures or customers.
Weekly email
Paid plans send one email a week. It tells you if your visibility slipped 10 points or more, if a rival moved ahead and if any new answer turned negative.
The Slibur dashboard: visibility, sentiment, average position, mentions and the competitor ranking.
The math on Starter. 20 prompts give about 1,440 AI answers a month* for $59, around 4.1 cents an answer. Every answer is kept in full, with the rivals it named and the pages it cited.
What a small business tracks. Questions a stranger would type, with the trade and the town in them: “best emergency electrician in Tampa open tonight”, “who installs heat pumps in Columbus”, “is a family law firm in Plano worth the retainer”. These are examples, not readings. Slibur suggests your first ones from your website.
* On paid plans. ChatGPT is read on chatgpt.com in every country Slibur tracks except Venezuela and Puerto Rico, where it is asked weekly through its API.

50 to 79Buy one paid tool, for your weakest job, from the picker at the top.
80 to 100Start measuring: what the AIs say every week, and your Google numbers every month.
What to skip when your budget is small
Six ways a small budget leaks on SEO tools, and what to do instead.
Articles that publish themselves, by the month
Some tools on the top Google lists sell them. Google says that generating many pages without adding value for people may break its policy on scaled content abuse (opens in a new tab). One solid page per service beats thirty thin ones.
A full suite for a ten-page website
Search Console already shows your own searches for free. A suite pays off when you need rivals’ keywords and backlinks every week, not before.
The price an AI quotes you
Of the 9 AI price quotes we could check on November 7, 2026, 3 were wrong, and 4 more could not be checked in dollars at all. Open the maker’s page before you decide.
Trials that take your card first
Surfer’s trial asks for payment details at the start. Slibur, SE Ranking, BrightLocal and Frase run trials with no card. Ahrefs has no trial.
Anyone who promises a place in ChatGPT
No tool decides what an AI writes. For AI Overviews and AI Mode, Google says (opens in a new tab) there are no extra requirements beyond normal SEO best practices. Shortcuts for sale are a bad sign.
Prices copied from old lists
Two of the four Google results we read quote plans their makers no longer show: Surfer’s retired Essential plan, and Koala at $7 a month while Koala’s own page reads $25.
What the trial includes
Ask the AIs your own customers’ questions before you pay for anything.
7 days free, no card. Sign up with your email or Google. When the trial ends, tracking stops and nothing is charged.
Up to 10 prompts. We suggest prompts and competitors from your website, and you edit the list before the first run.
All five AI platforms on day one. ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Perplexity and Grok answer your prompts as soon as your email is confirmed.
ChatGPT and Google AI again every day while you keep visiting your dashboard. Claude, Perplexity and Grok are asked once, at sign-up.
One “Run now” and the 18-point site audit. After the trial, our free GEO audit tool still audits any site, without an account.
On paid plans only: team invites and the weekly email summary with alerts.
* On paid plans. ChatGPT is read on chatgpt.com in every country Slibur tracks except Venezuela and Puerto Rico, where it is asked weekly through its API.
What is the best AI SEO tool for a small business?
There is no single one, because a small business needs three jobs done. For what AI assistants say about you, Slibur from $59 a month. For Google data, Search Console, which is free. For keyword research, Ahrefs Starter at $29. For writing, NeuronWriter at $23 or Frase at $39 billed yearly. Prices read on November 7, 2026.
What is an AI SEO tool?
Software that uses AI for search work: drafting and grading pages, finding keywords, auditing a site, or checking what ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews and other assistants tell someone who asks about your trade. Most small businesses need one tool of that last kind and the free Google and Bing reports for the rest.
Are there free AI SEO tools for small businesses?
Yes. Google Search Console and Google Business Profile cost nothing, and Bing Webmaster Tools now counts how often Copilot cites your pages. Ahrefs Free gives verified site owners a limited audit. Slibur’s free GEO audit runs an 18-point AI-readiness check on your site, with no account.
How much should a small business spend on SEO tools?
You can start at $0. A local service business can cover Google, map rankings and AI answers for about $100 a month with BrightLocal Track and Slibur Starter, and a content site for about $111 with Ahrefs Starter, NeuronWriter and Slibur. Spend more only when a tool shows you work you cannot do yet.
Can ChatGPT do SEO for my small business?
It can draft titles, descriptions and pages, and suggest the questions customers ask. It cannot see your Google data, and it cannot tell you how often it recommends you, because it writes each answer fresh. Google’s guidance is to have a person check every AI draft, metadata included, before it goes live.
How do I get ChatGPT to recommend my business?
Let OpenAI’s search crawler in, keep your details identical on your site, Google and Bing, and get listed on the pages ChatGPT cites for your customers’ questions. Then ask those questions every week and count how often you come up. No tool can promise a mention.
Not by itself. Google says generative AI is useful for research and structure, but generating many pages without adding value may break its spam policy on scaled content abuse. Use AI for a first draft, add what only you know (prices, areas, photos, real jobs) and check every figure.
Do I still need SEO if my customers ask AI?
Yes. Google says normal SEO best practices still apply to AI Overviews and AI Mode, with no extra requirements. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Grok can search the web before they answer, so the pages that rank in those searches still shape what they say. What changes is that you now check a second place: what those answers say about you.
Is Semrush or Ahrefs worth it for a small business?
Only when you need rivals’ keywords and backlinks every week. Ahrefs Starter at $29 is the cheap way in, and Lite is $129. Semrush’s SEO plan showed us €134 a month, and its AI search tracking starts on the €190 Starter plan. Semrush has a 7-day trial; Ahrefs has none.
Does Slibur track Google rankings?
No. Slibur reads AI answers instead: once a day on ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews with a paid plan, once a week on Claude, Perplexity and Grok. For your Google positions, Search Console is free, and Ahrefs Starter or SE Ranking add a proper rank tracker.
Do I need a local SEO tool?
If customers find you on Maps, start with a complete Google Business Profile and Bing Places, both free. Pay for a local tool such as BrightLocal ($41 a month for one location) when you want your rankings across a map grid and your listings kept in sync.
The best AI SEO tools for small businesses start from one fact: what your customers hear when they ask. Add your website and up to 10 questions, and you get answers from all five AIs on the first day.
